While this photo is from Guatemala City sleeping on the street is pretty common in Central America. Basically, if you are going to be homeless, this is a good place.
Why? The most important reason is the weather. The lowest temperature in Guatemala City is 10C and the highest is 30C. So, yes, you need a blanket sometimes but nothing more. And, generally, you won’t be harassed by anyone.
I had intended to post something about this for quite a while but I just didn’t have the right picture. This morning when Lula and I were returning home from breakfast at Rey Sol (everyone in the restaurant knows her) I saw this woman sleeping in the central park. While I think she would be safe anyway, having the dog there was “backup protection”.
