While you can find local fresh fruit in the supermarket, there are also fruit carts selling it. This particular cart is in the Central Park in Guatemala City. He is selling either whole fruit of slices in a plastic bag.
In Central America there is always some fruit in season. In this cart you can see pineapple, papaya and melon. At a different time of the year you might find peaches, apples or strawberries.
This is another example of an “off the books” business.
I have seen carts like this being pushed down the streets of Zona 1 and Zona 2 in Guatemala City. You will also find them in other cities and towns. The same was true in Estelí Nicaragua.
