One of the issues with moving somewhere new (or even just visiting) is managing your money. I have been using Wise to to money transfers and currency conversions for a few years now and I can highly recommend time.
Wise is not a bank but they have partnerships with banks. By using Wise you effectively end up with a bank account with the ability to send money to it, convert currencies and have Wise forward money to other accounts. For example, you might want to fund your wise account with Euros but spend the money in USD. You effectively get two bank accounts — one in Euros and one in Dollars and can access each account, transfer between them and even send invoices from them.
As I said, I have been using them for a few years. They have been fast, efficient and inexpensive. I have done transactions in USD, Euro, GTQ and even Kenyan Schilling with no issues. I actually did a USD transfer today to Guatemala and it arrived in about one hour.
If you decide to open a Wise account, you can use my referral code which is https://wise.com/invite/dtsc/phillipsh and, yes, I will get a small premium.
